Unbreak My Heart
the inspiration
Unbreak My Heart was inspired by an experience I underwent when hired to play privately for a couple grappling with a relationship in tatters. Unbeknownst to me at the time, I was covertly recruited to take part in a rescue mission to save it. I performed 3 songs and 3 songs only, one of which was "Whole Lotta Love" by Led Zepplin. Not exactly the type of song one might request when trying to woo someone into giving you a second chance, but I'm not one to judge. I saved that song for last because the lyrics are pretty raunchy and even more awkward to sing when there's only you and the couple who hired you in attendance. I needed the other two songs to build up my courage to even attempt the 3rd.
And when the time came, I looked deep into her bewildered eyes and sang with deep wanting conviction, trying to dial up the awkwardness factor since I had little choice but to sing the song. Might as well have fun with it! In any case, this story is where I drew inspiration for this song. Inspiration comes from the unlikeliest of places as they say.
